Statement by Senator Yudichak on Senate Bill 906

Harrisburg, January 15, 2020 – State Senator John Yudichak (I-14) released the following statement today after the House passed Senate Bill 906 by a vote of 139-55.

“I want to thank Rep. Lee James and the members of the Luzerne County House Delegation, both Republican and Democrat, who fought hard to advance Senate Bill 906 which will prohibit the closure of White Haven Center and Polk State Center,” said Senator John Yudichak.

“The passage of SB 906 is a significant victory for people with intellectual disabilities, the families that love them and the dedicated employees who provide loving care to them at our state centers. I look forward to working with Senator Michele Brooks, Senator Scott Hutchinson, Senator Lisa Baker and my other Senate colleagues to concur on the House amendment and send Senate Bill 906 to the Governor for his signature.”

Senator Yudichak introduced Senate Bill 906 with Senator Michele Brooks (R-50), Senator Scott Hutchinson (R-21) and Senator Lisa Baker (R-20). As amended by the House, the bill creates the Task Force on the Closure of State Facilities to analyze and manage the closure of any state center and prevents a closure of those centers for a minimum of five years.
