A statement from State Senator John Yudichak in support of the families from White Haven Center and Polk State Center

The following is a statement from State Senator John Yudichak (I – Luzerne/Carbon) in support of the families from White Haven Center and Polk State Center that announced today in the Capitol Rotunda the filing of a Civil Rights Lawsuit in Federal Court to protect the rights of their loved ones, and those on the “waiting list” for community-based care to be able to choose the services and resources offered by Pennsylvania’s state centers.

“The fight to save White Haven Center and Polk State Center stems from a fundamental choice that belongs to families, and families alone, who want the best level of care for their loved ones dealing with intellectual disabilities,” said State Senator John Yudichak (I – Luzerne/Carbon)

“I applaud these courageous families for taking this important fight to the courts, calling on our civil justice system to halt the closure of White Haven Center and Polk State Center and protect their rights to secure the best, most appropriate care for individuals with intellectual disabilities.”

“We remain steadfast in our support of the families of White Haven Center and Polk State Center, whether it is either in the courts or in the legislature by advancing Senate Bill 906 that will stop the closure of state centers that have served individuals with intellectual disabilities.”
